Mittens, once referred to as "King Floof of Cuba", is famous for wandering around the central city and making himself at home wherever he pleases.
The cat has been known to frequent Wellington's night life, having once walked into a strip club and on another occasion sat on the counter of a Cuba St bar until 2am watching people have drinks. The m sq four-bedroom house is designed by iconic architect Gray Young. Owner Silvio Bruinsma said he was not in a position to comment on the move at this stage, but the Herald understands the family is looking to shift to Auckland.
Bruinsma has since posted on Mittens' Facebook page confirming the family will be moving to Auckland over the coming holiday period. Bruinsma said when the family first relocated to the capital, he never would have expected the journey it would take Mittens on. He is as inquisitive, caring and a great companion as always. We asked Sam whether she was lucky enough to get to meet the Royal Mittens, to which she replied: "I have met Mittens myself.
I have seen him at the SPCA a couple of times. I have never met him out in the wild as I am not often in town. The couple of times I have been in town I have not been able to find him. In person he is just as floofy and charming as he looks!
He is so loving and friendly and makes cute trilling noises to say hello. When I spotted him, I screeched and ran across the street like a mad woman. His Floofiness allowed me to sit beside him and pet his glorious head. Day made! Note: this post originally had 45 images. For the most part, shops and businesses let him come and go as he pleases! I can say that Mitten is one lucky cat, the whole city love him so much he can roaming around and no ones gonna hurt him. I wish more people should learn from them.
Unlike Spain and Australia these should be ashamed!! You can add the U. The people in most towns here would not notice or care and if they did they would probably steal him. His fame and safety speak volumes about New Zealand. What do we do in Australia that would harm this kitty?? If he were wandering the streets of any large city like Mittens does, the only thing that would happen is exactly what happens in Wellington!
His staff would be called or Animal Shelters. I'm assuming you are referring to the culling of feral cats. It is a completely different thing. Unfortunately, cats are not native to Australia, so the animals cats will prey on are without any natural means of defence. So many of our native animals, like the bandicoot and bilby, are on the brink of extinction because off them! Smaller colonies may be controlled through TNR but there are over 2 million feral cats.
I am a cat lover of the highest degree but I can see how this has to happen. Now Mittens is quite obviously not a feral cat. His approachability too. We aren't completely thoughtless, we are just at the breaking point with introduced species destroying our wildlife. So cool to see it on BoredPanda. I've seen this cat around a few times but didn't realise how famous it was!

Hands down the best thing about Wellington is there is an omnipresent cat called Mittens that roams the city and is basically a celebrity. Often the paparazzi find him in the most random of spots throughout the city and post photos.
His Facebook fan page has 30, members. A selfie with Mittens has become a bucket-list item for many Wellingtonians. I missed my bus to work, so I'll be a little late in today.
