All of these historical events affected everyday people. I find that a little interesting and it opens up a lot of possible plots for a mystery novel. I would like make it a series and so I might have continuing subplots.
One subplot is that the main character is not a christian but he is surrounded by people of faith. I write contemporary YA, at least, primarily. I have written a historical romance too, but the less said about that, the better…. My gut tells me you should write in the style you feel comfortable with. Otherwise, it might come out sounding empty and contrived.
